Today I'm a dollar short and a day behind, but I'm still here.

Life has a funny way of testing your patience—and your sense of humor. Sometimes it feels like nothing is going right, and just when you think you've got everything under control, life says, "Hold my coffee." I've learned that in those moments, all you can really do is laugh, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and trust that things have a way of working themselves out.

Around here, we're still up to our necks in construction, but there's hope! The new floors upstairs are almost finished, the baseboards are going in, and once the house gets painted and the drywall dust finally waves goodbye, we'll be able to put this chapter behind us—and enjoy our newly improved home.

Of course, it wouldn't be a home renovation without a few plot twists. One of our toilets decided it had officially retired and cracked on the new floor. So off we went to buy a replacement. I found the perfect one—or so I thought. It turns out the beautiful model on display wasn't the same toilet that was actually in the boxes. At that point, I honestly didn't care what it looked like... as long as it flushed!

Ever since our house was hit by lightning back in December 2024, it has felt like we'd never get to this point. Between a never-ending insurance claim, new appliances, holes in the walls, drywall dust everywhere, and now a toilet with commitment issues, it's been one adventure after another. But here we are—dusty, extremely tired, and counting down the days until everything is better than new.

Here's what's been buzzing around while I was dodging drywall dust! From new businesses to exciting projects taking shape and local happenings worth knowing about, here's what's new around our community.

House of Pies (Webster) – Webster is getting one of Houston's popular restaurants! House of Pies is making its way to the Bay Area, bringing its famous pies, hearty breakfasts, and comfort food favorites a whole lot closer to home. Construction is underway, and while we'll have to wait just a little longer, this one is definitely worth getting excited about.

Preslee's Southern Good Eatery (Webster) – Another exciting addition is headed to Webster! Preslee's Southern Good Eatery plans to open in the former Hop building later this year. If you're a fan of Southern comfort food, this is one restaurant you'll want to keep on your radar.

Schafer's Coastal Kitchen (Nassau Bay) – A new dining experience is coming to Nassau Bay this fall. Schafer's Coastal Kitchen is transforming the former Luby's building across from Space Center Houston into what promises to be a beautiful coastal-inspired restaurant featuring fresh seafood, steaks, craft cocktails, and plenty of space to gather with family and friends. It just might become your next favorite date-night spot.

If you're always on the hunt for a great cup of coffee, let me let you in on one of the Bay Area's best-kept secrets—Soulfreak Railroad Cafe in Historic League City. Tucked away next to League Park, it's the kind of place that's easy to miss but impossible to forget. Grab a handcrafted latte, settle into one of the cozy indoor spaces, or sip your coffee outside beneath the oak trees while watching the trains roll by. It's the perfect spot to slow down, catch up with a friend, or simply enjoy a quiet morning.
