Galveston Bay Buzz!

Hello Friends!

This past weekend was filled with celebration, family, and memories I’ll cherish forever of attending the commencement ceremony for my MBA degree. It marked an incredible achievement, made even more special by the fact that I graduated alongside my sister and we both earned our MBA degrees together.

We arrived in New Orleans on Friday night for an Alumni Party and enjoyed some incredible Cajun cuisine with our families. We indulged in amazing dishes like crawfish, jambalaya, braised short ribs, and cheesy grits, finishing the night with beignets—one of my favorites.

My sister and I sat side by side, walked the stage one after the other, and shared a moment that truly felt once in a lifetime. It wasn’t an easy journey, but we supported each other through our most challenging classes while balancing life as wives, moms, and professionals working demanding full-time jobs.

There were moments over the past few years when I questioned my own brainpower, especially with subjects like microeconomics and macroeconomics, because they just didn’t click the first time. I could write a 16-page essay in my sleep without hesitation but felt immediate anxiety the moment I sat down for a proctored exam.

The night before the commencement ceremony, I wasn’t stressed about walking in front of thousands of people. I was stressed about how I was going to pull off the scuba dance my daughter dared me to do and take the on-stage selfie I promised all of you in my last newsletter. A dare from your family matters more than what the rest of the world thinks! It even earned me a fist pump from the College Provost on stage as I walked by her. Priorities handled. 🎤

I truly believe that earning a degree is possible for anyone who stays determined and commits to putting in the work. Failure creates success, so keep learning, keep growing, and never give up. Stay determined, keep pushing forward, and trust that your hard work will turn your goals into reality!

Here’s the closest I could get to pulling off an on-stage selfie!

If you’re a local photographer and would like the opportunity to feature your local photos in an upcoming newsletter, please send them to [email protected].

We’d love to showcase your work!

A Little Fun St. Patrick’s Day History 🍀

St. Patrick’s Day began as a religious holiday honoring Ireland’s patron saint, but somewhere along the way it became a global celebration of wearing green, enjoying festive food, and pretending everyone has a little Irish heritage.

St. Patrick wasn’t even Irish. He was born in Britain and brought to Ireland as a teenager. Even more surprising, the original color associated with St. Patrick wasn’t green; it was blue. Green took over later thanks to Ireland’s lush landscape and a little enthusiastic holiday marketing.

Today, the holiday is celebrated with parades, music, dancing, and plenty of cheerful mischief. If there’s one thing history teaches us, it’s that traditions evolve, especially when food and fun are involved.

Texas City Developments

Don’t forget the Scavenger Hunt III 409 Protocol does not end until April 9th.

Exciting news for Texas City! A new Texas Roadhouse is opening soon near Tanger Outlets and Buc-ee’s, with a grand opening set for March 31st at 3:45pm. Along with the great food and lively atmosphere, the restaurant is also bringing more than 250 new jobs to the local community.

Big Upgrades Happening in Texas City! Texas City is stepping into the future with major upgrades designed to better serve its growing community. A new Municipal Complex is now underway, bringing many city departments together under one roof and making services more convenient for residents.

The city also plans to expand the Engineering and Public Works facility, make necessary renovations to Moore Memorial Public Library, and build a new Fire Station No. 5 to help emergency crews respond more quickly to emergencies.

These upgrades are necessary because of the city’s rapid growth and the outdated facilities. The projects will be funded through certificates of obligation and will not increase the current property tax rate.

This long-term investment will strengthen public safety and create better spaces to serve the Texas City community.

Friends of Moore Memorial Public Library will host their Annual Used Book Sale on March 13th from 10:00am to 2:00pm and March 14th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at 1701 9th Avenue North in Texas City.

My sister Nichole and I waiting for our moment to shine.
