Hello Friends!

I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful Memorial Day weather because our brief spring season seems to have disappeared overnight, and the Texas heat came bursting through the door with its sidekick — humidity. Hello, summer!!

Summer has a funny way of changing as we grow up. As kids, summer felt like the exciting chapter between one school year ending and another waiting to begin — the part of the story you couldn’t wait to get to. We counted down the days until school was out, dreaming about sleeping in, playing with friends, swimming, messy popsicles, late sunsets, and endless free time. Summer felt like freedom.

Then adulthood arrives… especially adulthood in Texas. Somewhere between the triple-digit heat, stepping into a car that feels like an oven, and melting the second you walk outside, you realize you’ve somehow become a person who dreams about those “cold to your bones” winter days. Suddenly, 32 degrees sounds refreshing instead of miserable.

I still laugh when I think about when my kids were little and would ask me, “when does your summer break start?” I hated being the one to break it to them that adults don’t get summer breaks, but maybe that’s why summer matters even more now. As adults, we have to intentionally create those breaks that make life feel slower, lighter, and more meaningful.

A few years ago, my sisters and I started a weekly family dinner tradition. Once a week, we rotate houses, share a meal, catch up on life, laugh together, and pause the chaos for an hour or two. It’s such a small thing, but somehow it fills your soul in the biggest way. In a world where everyone is busy and schedules are overflowing, that intentional pause each week has become one of my favorite meals of the week.

The truth is, we rarely “find” time for the things in this busy high pace world. We have to make the time.

So, as we head into this next month of summer heat, beach days, backyard evenings, and busy calendars, I hope you’ll give yourself time to slow down a little. Make time for your yourself. Make time for your family, your friends, and the things that truly matter to you because the moments that feed your soul are the ones you’ll cherish most in the end.
