Galveston Bay Buzz!

Hello Bay Area, Houston! The new year is in full swing, the holiday décor has been packed away, and everyday life is back to its normal pace. |
Let’s talk goals! I’m a goal-setter, so I assumed everyone made New Year’s resolutions. I was shocked to learn that only about 30% of people are New Years goal-setters like me, so here’s a little comical inspiration and a laugh on me. In 2024, one of my goals was to start growing potatoes. It looked SO easy online, so I thought… why not? I got everything I needed, followed all the steps I found online, and waited for my plants to sprout. Finally, one day a small plant sprouted from under the dirt, and I was so excited because I mastered potato growing! As the plant grew, I watered it faithfully (or made my kids do it). It grew into a huge plant, and I was so proud of it. After months of anticipation, I dug into the soil dreaming of a hot, steaming baked potato for dinner—only to find dirt and roots. After all that care, I realized my “potato plant” was actually a weed! Moral of the story: Turns out I’m really good at growing weeds. |
I’ll be part of the 30% in 2026—ready to set goals, make mistakes, and maybe grow a few real potatoes. Here’s to more potatoes! 1. Be intentional with my time because it’s the one thing I’ll never get back. 2. Focus on Faith, Family and Friends. 3. Try a new restaurant every week. 4. Read two new books each month and venture beyond my usual interests. 5. Spend less time scrolling… unless it’s for hidden gems for the newsletter. 6. Stop pressing snooze and make the most of my mornings. 7. Remember passwords without resetting them. 8. Plant potatoes again! My family will love this!!! |
This year is a year of goals, growth, and living with intention. When I’m not trying to figure out how to grow potatoes, I’ll be out exploring our area, and I look forward to meeting you if our paths cross. |
This week we are featuring some lovely photos sent in from Rebeca Toro.

Texas City Area Spotlight
Texas City is known for its perseverance and strength, having faced and overcome several major disasters throughout its history. From the devastating 1927 hurricane to the 1947 Texas City Explosion, and more recently hurricanes like Ike in 2008, this community has proven it can rebuild, recover, and rise above devastation.
After a quick breakfast (I will share in a future newsletter) I stopped by the 6th Street Food Truck Park to explore the Community Plaza again. It’s such a cute little area, complete with a playground, splash pad, dog park, stage, and a small hill perfect for watching concerts. Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 17th—bring the family and enjoy a live performance by Level One Band from 7–9pm! This FREE event is the perfect opportunity to explore the park and enjoy some outdoor fun with the family. Bring some snacks or enjoy food from the local food trucks.
As I left Texas City and headed north, I already knew where I was stopping for lunch—I’d been stalking this place on social media. Not crazy stalking, just the curious kind! I left Texas City and made my way to Bacliff for my next stop: No Forks Food Truck at 523 Grand Ave, Bacliff. Soon, they’ll be transitioning from their food truck into a restaurant. Let me just say—you’ll want to save this number in your phone: 832-506-3260.
The food was incredible, the flavors on point, and the ranch? Let’s just say this ranch snob was impressed!! We tried the California Burger, and every bite was packed with flavor—the sauce was amazing, the patty was perfectly seasoned, and the soft bun melted into the burger. For the wings and tots, we went with Garlic Parmesan, and they were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. It’s real food with amazing flavor that’s prepared fresh daily.
No Forks is a small, local business that gives back to the community and supports other local businesses. During the holidays, they set up an Angel Tree for families in need. After seeing that, I immediately added them to my list and knew exactly where my next Texas City area adventure would take me. Do yourself a favor and stop by—they’re worth it!

Texas City Area Developments
People love debating where Texas City begins and ends… I say let’s skip the arguing and just enjoy the area’s best spots—and all the exciting things coming soon!
A new development is taking shape at the Commons at Lago Mar, located at the east intersection of Lago Mar Blvd East and Crystal View Blvd. Several exciting businesses are currently under construction, including Center Court Pizza & Brew, Luna Rosa Cocina & Cantina, and Pecan Jacks Ice Cream & Candy.
Longhorn Steakhouse has submitted a Development Plan application for a location in Texas City. I will keep my eyes on this possible development.
I keep seeing people requesting the city to bring a Trader Joes. You can submit the request here: Request a Trader Joe's
Stay tuned… the buzz is just getting started. 🐝

I’ve been so impressed by the sense of community and the way people give back to others. If you live in Texas City and are in need of food, there are several Blessing Boxes located throughout the city. If you have been blessed and want to bless someone in need you can donate to the blessing boxes.
