I'm still here... barely hanging on by a thread, but I'm here!

Let me ask you a question... how many people do you know who flood their brand-new floors the same day they're installed? If you know me, you can officially say you know one.

Before our home renovations started, I washed every piece of laundry in the house because the project was supposed to take about three weeks. Well... three weeks somehow turned into six weeks and counting. By week four, I realized we needed more clean clothes and decided there was no point in going to the washateria (which still cracks me up because I grew up calling it a laundromat). After all, I had a perfectly good washer and dryer—they just needed to be hooked back up.

The painters had just finished the laundry room, the floors had been installed earlier that day, and everything looked beautiful. Around 10:30 that night, I decided it was finally time to do a load of laundry. We slid the washer and dryer into place, hooked everything up—or so we thought—and I started the washer.

About 20 minutes later, I walked into the garage to grab a drink from the refrigerator and heard the tiniest trickle of water behind me. I turned around just in time to see water dripping through the garage ceiling... and the hole getting bigger by the second.

I grabbed the mop bucket, shoved it under the leak, and took off running upstairs yelling for my husband and son. As I rounded the corner into the hallway, my heart sank. Water was pouring out of the laundry room, running down the hallway, into my son's bedroom, and making its way into the media room.

Did I mention the flooring had been installed just a few hours earlier?

You would think that was the end of the excitement... right? Not even close.

After what felt like an audition for The Cat in the Hat, I was racing around with the shop vac trying to suck up every drop of water. Then we went back into the garage, where that one little leak had turned into several leaks and the ceiling was drooping. Water was coming through the ceiling everywhere.

My husband immediately started cutting out the wet sheetrock while our 22-year-old son jumped in to help. Then, as if the night hadn't been exciting enough, half the house suddenly went dark. My son accidentally nicked an electrical wire.

So, there they were, around 12:30 in the morning, standing in a torn-up garage, wearing headlamps and cutting out sheetrock, while I just stood there wondering how a load of laundry could turn into such a disaster.

Thankfully, no one was injured, everything is repairable, the damaged sheetrock has been replaced, and we're finally moving forward again. One day this whole renovation will make for a good comedy gig. Today... I'm still recovering.

The good news? We finally have clean clothes. The bad news? It only cost us a flooded floor, a garage ceiling, and half the electricity in the house.

Life has a funny way of testing us. Some seasons seem to drag on forever, but I truly believe they make us stronger. So, for now, I'm choosing to laugh through the chaos, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and trust that before I know it, this chapter will be behind me, the page will turn, and it will all be nothing more than a distant memory.

Here's hoping that chapter comes sooner rather than later.

It's a peaceful spot that's easy to overlook, but it's a fun little adventure for kids and adults alike.

While you're in Seabrook, make it a game and see how many of the city's colorful Pelican Path statues you can find. There are more than 50 hand-painted pelicans hidden throughout town, making it the perfect scavenger hunt for the whole family. Sometimes the best adventures are hiding right in our own backyard!

School is back in session, football season is kicking off, and fall is slowly starting to peek around the corner—even if the Texas heat hasn't gotten the memo yet!

This time of year always brings a little extra excitement to Bay Area Houston. Community calendars are filling up with farmers markets, live music, family events, and local festivals. It's the perfect excuse to get out, support a small business, try a new restaurant, or explore somewhere you've never been before.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for cooler weather! Before we know it, I'll be filling this newsletter with fall festivals, pumpkin patches, hayrides, and all the cozy fun that comes with my favorite time of the year. Until then... I'll be over here pretending 98 degrees feels like fall.
