Galveston Bay Buzz!

Hello Bay Area, Houston! Are you surviving this cold weather? I’ve officially entered hibernation mode with absolutely no plans to leave the house. The cold in Texas just hits differently than up north — it freezes you straight to the bone, and it doesn’t matter how gravy-blessed you are!! The Texas cold just humbles my biscuit reserves. Moral of the story: I’m freezing and thawing out slower than a frozen Thanksgiving turkey.

The story I’m about to share isn’t local, but it’s a crazy true story I remembered while being stuck at home this past weekend. Have you heard of Mehran Karimi Nasseri? He was an Iranian refugee who became stranded in Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport in 1988 after his ID and travel papers were lost. He could not legally enter France or board a flight out of the country. He ended up making a home in the airport for 18 years. During that time, he was taken care of by airport staff, travelers, and airline employees. He finally left the airport in 2006 after becoming ill and being hospitalized. After his discharge, he lived in hotels and shelters, then returned to the airport in 2022, where he passed away. He lived in an airport for over 18 years… and just like that, my cabin fever lost all credibility. You may know this story from The Terminal with Tom Hanks, but Hollywood barely scratched the surface of this real story.

I hope you were able to slow down a bit, take a little break, and enjoy a much-needed breather over this past weekend. Life moves fast, and sometimes we forget to pause and just breathe for a minute. Enjoy it while it lasts — Texas weather changes faster than the last kolache at the donut shop!

League City Spotlight

If loving pizza is wrong, I don’t want to be right. This business earned every bit of this spotlight! Have you tried pepperoni pizza with a hot honey drizzle? I tried it a few years ago, and now I can’t eat my pepperoni pizza without it.

Pizza King really hit home when I realized they drizzle that hot honey goodness on their Hey Honey pizza. What I love most about Pizza King is that Dodi, the Pizza King, supports other local businesses by visiting them and sharing their stories on TikTok. These are the kinds of local businesses that stand out to me because this is what real community looks like.

Pizza King has two locations — 103 Davis Rd, Ste F in League City and 800 Bradford Ave in Kemah. Perfect for grabbing a slice for lunch or bringing the family home pizza for dinner. 🍕
