Hello, Friends!

I hope you're all staying safe and dry!

I still haven't figured this whole tropical storm and hurricane thing out... and I'm pretty sure I gained five pounds waiting on it.

They'll say, "The storm is expected to arrive around noon," and here I am at 8:00 p.m. still waiting like I'm expecting an important package that keeps getting delayed.

I grew up in the land of mountains, trees, fresh air, and earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest. When we had an earthquake, there wasn't much warning. One minute everything was normal, and the next minute you were wondering where to run and hide. It was an unexpected surprise—and honestly, I think I preferred that.

These tropical storms and hurricanes? They're a whole different story. For days, we watch spaghetti models, refresh the weather app every 30 minutes, and hear, "It could go this way... or that way... or maybe somewhere completely different." Then they guess when it's supposed to arrive, and somehow, you're still sitting there hours later waiting for it to make up its mind.

The waiting is the worst part.

And if you've lived through Harvey, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The minute someone says, "tropical storm" or "hurricane," I suddenly feel the need to cook everything in my refrigerator, charge every battery in the house, and convince myself I need enough snacks to survive a month. Storm PTSD is a real thing around here.

Even our dog gets nervous... and she wasn't even born when Harvey visited!

On a sunny note, our house is finally starting to look like a home again. We're so close to the finish line! This week I've been unpacking tote after tote, and honestly, it feels like Christmas morning. Every time I pop the lid off another one, it's a surprise. Apparently, packing up your entire house is like leaving little presents for yourself. The only downside? I've also been reminded that I own way more stuff than I ever realized!

Here's hoping this tropical storm passes quickly, everyone stays safe, and the biggest problem we have next week is figuring out what to do with all the food we panic-cooked.

Now that we've caught up on all the chaos, let's get down to business and see what fun we can find for our future plans! From hidden gems to community happenings, there's plenty to look forward to around Bay Area Houston.
