Galveston Bay Buzz! ❤️

Hello Bay Area, Houston! I’m so excited to be able to step outside again and not feel instantly frozen to the bone. I was happy to see above-freezing temperatures in the weather forecast this next week. I’m officially ready to put my winter coat back in the closet until next year!

February is the shortest month of the year, and with how fast time has been flying, it will be over in the blink of an eye. I never really thought much about the reason behind leap year, so I looked it up. Leap year exists to keep our calendar aligned with the Earth’s orbit around the sun. Without that extra day every four years, the calendar would slowly drift out of sync by about 25 days over a century. Long story short, summer would be winter and spring would be fall… or something like that! Now we all know the reason behind leap year.

Fun Fact: Did you know when February starts on a Sunday it has four full weeks?

If you’re a local photographer and would like the opportunity to feature your local photos in an upcoming newsletter, please send them to [email protected].

Kemah, Seabrook and Clear Lake Shores Spotlight

I grew up in a small town in the Pacific Northwest (don’t worry because I’m fully Texified) where the Mexican food was a little different. It wasn’t Tex-Mex, but more Baja California style, made with fresh ingredients. Both are amazing, just in very different ways.

Let me tell you, I found a place and knew from the first bite it wasn’t Tex-Mex! I was immediately taken back and knew it tasted different. I thought, “This is like the Mexican food in Washington.” Then I looked up and saw the sign: “Since 1989 — California, Washington, and now in Texas.” I knew it and could taste it in just one bite!

This isn’t a fancy, take-your-Louis and red-bottom heels to dinner kind of place. This is a hole-in-the-wall place with amazing food that’ll add mileage to your vehicle from going through the drive-thru too often.

Now that I’ve set the standard… for your first trip, go in the morning and order the $6 breakfast burrito special (shown below). It’s big enough to share with two or more people, so don’t go ordering one for everyone in the car unless you want leftovers for the next week. Make sure to get some green sauce on the side — just use a little, because it’s HOT, but delicious. When you go back (and you will), order the Super Fries with Carne Asada. Then add a drizzle of that green sauce onto those fries.

This hidden gem is Aliberto’s Fresh Mexican Food, located at 1355 Hwy 146 in Kemah. They offer daily specials at great prices, making it a very affordable place to eat. If you see me there more than once a week, don’t judge — just say hello.

Kemah, Seabrook and Clear Lake Shores Developments

Stay tuned… the buzz is just getting started. 🐝

Have you seen the drones flying around Kemah? If you forget a small item (under 2.1 lbs.) at Walmart and live within 6–8 miles of the store, you can have it delivered by drone. Just place your order on the Walmart website.

The groundbreaking ceremony for a new Quick Quack Car Wash at 226 FM 2094 in Kemah is today at 2:00 p.m. I’ll keep my eyes and ears open and let you know when an opening date is announced.

A new retail development is coming to the Kemah/League City border in phases, with full completion expected around 2029. Don’t start thinking 2029 is that far away — my driver’s license doesn’t even expire until the 2030s! We’ll be keeping an eye on it to see what new businesses come to town. Maybe we can convince Trader Joe’s to move in!!

I know we’re all over the Highway 146 construction, but it won’t be complete for a little while. Current projections show completion by the end of 2028, so hopefully it will be completed in time for the new retail development. It will get worse before it gets better, so be safe and take alternative routes when possible.
